Pertussis Booster (Whooping Cough) Vaccination
New law requires all entering 7th – 12th graders to get a
Pertussis booster before entering school this fall
A Pertussis booster vaccination is now required for all students entering 7th – 12th grades
In the upcoming 2011-2012 school year, all 7th – 12th graders will need to show proof of having received a Pertussis booster before starting school.
Your child will not be admitted to school without documented proof of this vaccination.
What vaccine is needed?
Tdap. This is the vaccine that protects against tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis (commonly known as whooping cough).
California saw a record number of cases of pertussis in 2010. This is a serious disease that can cause coughing fits and can be deadly in infants. Preteens and teens can catch and spread pertussis to infants and other family members. Protect your family by getting your child vaccinated now.
Get Vaccinated!
Our school requires proof of vaccination BEFORE your child can enter school. Be sure to get documentation from your doctor that your child was vaccinated with Tdap. The Td vaccine (tetanus, diphtheria) will not be accepted for school entry. DESCRIBE WHEN YOUR SCHOOL WILL VERIFY VACCINATION STATUS.
Talk to your child’s healthcare provider about getting a Tdap vaccination and any other recommended vaccines.
If your child does not have health insurance or a regular health care provider, visit www.publichealth.lacounty.gov/ip or dial the Los Angeles County Information Line at 2-1-1 for referrals to no-cost or low-cost vaccine providers.
